Study: Preventing slips, trips, and falls with a proactive program

Facility design, workplace interventions, and employee training help prevent injuries to healthcare workers

There are a plethora of hazards in the healthcare environment, from needlesticks to ergonomic injuries, but one hazard that continues to plague workers is very simple, yet still very harmful. According to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, in 2009 the rate of lost workdays due to slip, trip, and fall (STF) injuries in hospitals was 38.2 per 10,000 employees-90% greater than the average rate for all other private industries.
