When hospitals talk about tracers, the focus is ­almost always on the accreditation or survey preparation department. Often crafted based on templates and tailored to the organization's needs, the task to build and improve such tracers-meant to help track and ­follow compliance on a given unit, department, or Joint ­Commission chapter's requirements-falls to the survey coordinator or accreditation specialist.
