Q: If a healthcare worker did not have titer drawn after the hepatitis B vaccination (HBV), how long afterward could we assume that he or she is a responder/non-responder?

A: If the healthcare worker did not have a titer, you must assume non-responder status according to the CDC/U.S. Public Health Service guidelines. Non-responder status will dictate how you treat the healthcare worker in the event of a needlestick from a HBV-positive source patient.
