No anthrax detected at government mail facility

Emergency Management Alert, January 22, 2003

The Postal Service recently said it found no anthrax at a government mail facility through which a letter that tested positive had traveled, the Associated Press reported.

All results of tests done on several samples turned up negative. The Washington postal facility stayed closed January 15 while testing samples from the site, and reopened the next day.

A single letter addressed to Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Roger Ferguson had tested positive on January 14. The sample was sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for further testing. The CDC planned more tests on the sample.
