Despite receiving 20 inches of rain in one weekend, Nashville hospitals remain open
Emergency Management Alert, May 11, 2010
At least 24 people in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Mississippi were killed after record rainfall created devastating floods, reports the New York Times.
Nashville, TN, was hit particularly hard, which received almost 20 inches of rain in just more than a 24-hour period, according to HealthLeaders reporter and Nashville resident Philip Betbeze. Betbeze reports that local hospitals remained open despite the severe flooding. One of the city's two water treatment plants was affected, and residents were asked to cut water use in half. Many residents were without electricity and water for days.
