Duke University Hospital staff members stopped a woman who tried to take a newborn from her mother's room on April 19, reports WTVD.com. Tanisha Weaver, 28, allegedly cut the infant's ankle bracelet off, triggering an alarm. Staff members recognized she was not authorized to take the infant and called police.

Authorities said Weaver intended to abduct an infant from Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson, NC, before the incident at Duke. At Parham, Weaver had dressed in surgical scrubs and identified herself as a nursing student when asked.
