Emergency Management Tip: Stocking disaster supplies and equipment

Emergency Management Alert, May 4, 2010

It's important to keep in mind what supplies you will need in a disaster—and even more importantly, already have them available. Here is a list of items you should remember to stock in the case of a mass casualty:

  • Triage tags
  • Rapid response kits
  • Stretchers
  • Decontamination supplies
  • Portable lighting
  • Oxygen manifold kits
  • PPE (including powered air-purifying respirators with hoods, motors, cartridges, suits, boots and gloves, N-95 masks, face shields, loop masks, gowns, gloves, and head and shoe coverings)

Also, during a medical disaster you may need assessment equipment such as:

  • Vital signs equipment (such as digital thermometers and disposable sleeves, blood pressure cuffs, oximeters, and co-oximeters).
