Emergency Management Tip: EM.02.02.07 offers good framework of staff concerns during disaster responses
Emergency Management Alert, April 6, 2010
Every emergency is different from every other emergency, and every moment in every emergency is different from every other moment in an emergency, and each person’s situation is going to be different.
Essentially, organizations must strive to provide sufficient comfort for staff members to be able to show up at work and be productive.
It shouldn’t be difficult to figure out what the key staff concerns might be. There’s a very nice list under Joint Commission emergency management standard EM.02.02.07, EP 6 (child care, elder care, pet care, communication).
It is a simple thought, but the practical applications are anything but easy. Strictly speaking, all each organization can do is set up a framework to assist staff in managing their situations and hope for the best.
