Despite severe flooding, Rhode Island hospitals up and running
Emergency Management Alert, April 6, 2010
The state health department in Rhode Island has confirmed that hospitals in the state were up and running after severe flooding hit the area, reports The Providence Journal.
The Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, RI, was on generator power a day after the storms subsided, but did not cancel any procedures after testing that the generator power was operating correctly.
Another hospital relied on generator power for a few hours, and suffered a brief pause to service after turning the generator off, which caused the computers, phones and e-mails to go down. Some nursing homes had flooding and moved patients to higher floors.
