Flood affects patient care a week later at one MA hospital

Emergency Management Alert, March 30, 2010

Flood affects patient care a week later at one MA hospital Flooding hit eastern Massachusetts hard a week ago, and Hallmark Health's Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford, MA is now dealing with the damage, reports the Medford Transcript.

Some patient services were temporarily disrupted, including closing operating rooms and suspending elective procedures because of flooding and water damage, reports the Transcript. The ED never closed.

As of March 22, damage was still keeping the hospital from returning to business as usual. The operating rooms affected are located on the ground floor of the hospital.

To prevent flooding in the future, a group of engineering consultants are looking at groundwater tables and runoffs as well as the existing drainage systems.
