Members of emergency preparedness team honored for executing statewide drill

Two employees of Providence Health & Services in San Fernando Valley, CA, were honored for their work in planning the 2008 ShakeOut, a statewide earthquake drill, reports KHTS news.
Steven Storbakken, director of safety, and Connie Lackey, managers of emergency preparedness, won the U.S. Geological Survey's Eugene M. Shoemaker Award for their work on The Great Southern California ShakeOut Campaign. The campaign involved a series of events, including a drill response to an earthquake. The drill became the largest of its kind in the U.S., with more than 5 million people participating. The scenario involves a 7.8 magnitude earthquake, and has become an annual event. The next drill will occur October 21, 2010.
