Emergency Management Tip: Securing grants
Emergency Management Alert, November 24, 2009
Grants are a tremendous resource to help you purchase disaster equipment and support training and exercises. There are also funds that can support mitigation measures.
You can explore local-, state-, and national-level grants. Local grants are usually easier to obtain because these are coming from your community partners. Seek out expertise from within your hospital if you do not have prior experience in managing grants. At a minimum, you can receive budgetary support from your accounting office. Make sure the administrator you report to agrees to apply for the funds, and then give him or her a copy of what you have filed. Some grants require matching funds, and you would want to make your administrator aware of this requirement.
