An electronic system is the best way to store patient tracking information and share it with your hospital command center and emergency operations center. These entities can then work with the county's American Red Cross Family Notification Center. Experience with past disasters has shown that family members become extremely frustrated when they have to search from hospital to hospital for their loved ones. No common format or system for patient tracking is available.
Work with your local hospital coalition and emergency management teams to identify a solution in your area. Another option is to purchase an emergency management event-tracking system that supports your needs.
