The president of Waterbury (CT) Hospital told the city’s aldermen last week that the facility accidentally dumped five bags of medical waste with its regular trash over the summer, reported the Republican American.
The incident occurred in July. A sanitation worker discovered the problem after medical red bags fell out of his garbage truck at a transfer station.
The medical waste was returned to the hospital for proper disposal. The bags didn’t contain any sharps, hospital officials told the Republican American.
The hospital’s president was discussing a proposed corporate ethics ordinance with aldermen when he mentioned the incident as an example of how good corporate citizens can inadvertently make mistakes.
