California taps into cache of N95 respirators
Emergency Management Alert, October 27, 2009
To help prevent healthcare workers against the H1N1 virus, California state officials are dispensing half of the state's stockpile of N95 respirators, reports the local CBS news affiliate.
The 51 million masks were purchased in 2006 as part of pandemic planning. The first half of the masks is being distributed to county public health departments, based on population.
The news comes as the California Nurses Association, representing 39 hospitals in California and Nevada, is threatening a one-day strike because they say hospitals are not adequately protecting employees against the H1N1 virus, reports the Wall Street Journal.
