Policies for mandatory vaccinations for seasonal and H1N1 flu are drawing praise from public health officials and condemnation from healthcare workers and unions, according to The Washington Post, September 26.
Historically healthcare workers are not much better than the general public in accepting flu shots for seasonal flu, and the prospect that H1N1 could soon overwhelm healthcare systems has healthcare employers and public health officials worried, says the article.
To get around individual worker resistance--sometimes defiant in nature--and union objections, more employers are posing the alternative of unvaccinated workers’ wearing procedures mask for extended periods of time. See “Forcing flu shots… sort of.”
