Emergency management tip: Evaluating your progress

Emergency Management Alert, September 29, 2009

The role of a hospital emergency management coordinator is a busy one. It feels like you are never done training new employees, updating plans, completing exercises, and taking corrective actions. It's easy to get caught up in everything. Follow these tips to help you cope:

  • You are not alone. Get to know individuals from other hospitals who have a role similar to yours. Join a hospital coalition if there is one in your area; if not, start one. It will be a great source of mutual support. Be a role-model for cooperation and sharing information.
  • Keep a log of all your activities, including meetings, trainings, presentations, articles to the media, publications, and equipment purchased. It will make it easier to roll up for intermittent reporting if you capture the informaiton each day.
