Tip of the week: Anticipate more security-related woes in your emergency room

As you follow the healthcare reform debate raging across the country, it also makes sense to view the matter from a security standpoint, said Fredrick Roll,president and principal consultant at Healthcare Security Consultants in Frederick, CO.
Roll predicts emergency room violence will get worse regardless of what version of healthcare reform lawmakers pass because in the end, such reforms always increase wait times.
In his experience, wait times are the No. 1 reason for violence in emergency rooms, Roll told attendees at the American Society for Healthcare Engineering’s annual conference in Anaheim, CA, in August.
Security directors may want to add this item for discussion to the next safety committee meeting agenda.
