As we first noted on our Twitter account this week, University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison has suspended student volunteers because of H1N1 swine flu concerns.
The move resulted from an H1N1 outbreak on the University of Wisconsin campus, where about 200 students have been infected, a university health official told The Daily Cardinal college newspaper.
This type of reaction may be one to at least ponder at your facility if you also use any kind of volunteers.
The volunteers at University of Wisconsin don’t provide medical care, but instead aid nurses and help complete paperwork, according to The Daily Cardinal. The hospital’s student employees will remain on the job because they, like other healthcare workers, follow certain infection control protocols while providing direct patient care.
