Q: Is fit testing N95s just showing workers how to put on and take off the respirator safely?
A: No, what you describe is some of the required elements for respirator safety training.
Fit testing is a protocol to qualitatively or quantitatively evaluate the fit of a respirator on an individual. It is done prior to respirator use in conjunction with selection of respirators and the employer is required to follow Appendix A of the respiratory protection plan for fit testing protocol.
Don’t confuse fit testing with showing workers how to don, doff, or even perform a user seal check. Click here to read more or view video clips on this topic.
