When it comes to successfully clarifying life safety citations from Joint Commission surveyors, key points to remember include:
- Hospital representatives have the opportunity to submit clarifying evidence of standards compliance (ESC) if they believe they were in compliance with a particular standard at the time of the survey
- The clarification is part of the ESC process and must be submitted within 10 days following the posting of the official accreditation report on the facility’s extranet site
- The submission of a clarification does not negate the requirement for submission of a corrective ESC within 45 days (direct impact standard) or 60 days (indirect impact standard)
Find out more strategies to successfully challenge citations from Brad Keyes, life safety consultant for The Greeley Company, during HCPro’s new seminar, Life Safety Code Solutions for Hospitals, which takes place September 24-25 in Boston. Additional sessions will dig into assessing life safety compliance at your facility and getting care providers to comply with the Life Safety Code, among other hard-hitting topics (the full agenda is available online).
