Tip of the week: Follow the paperwork for industrial chemical use

Ever wonder which hazardous chemicals are being stored by industrial plants in your hospital’s backyard?
 
Call the fire department or other authority and find out what hazmat forms these local industries have filed according to federal law, said Dalton Sawyer, emergency preparedness coordinator for University of North Carolina Health Care in Chapel Hill.
 
Once you have that information, you can begin to assess hazard vulnerabilities--and what might happen if a fire or explosion were to occur in one of these industrial plants, Sawyer said.
