The California Department of Health has fined a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility $100,000 for a resident death allegedly related to equipment stored in a corridor.
The resident died at Aviara Healthcare Center in Encinitas, CA, in May. "The facility created a hazard by improperly storing a large mechanical patient lift in a hallway," the state said. "A patient grabbed the lift during a fall, tipping it over. The resulting injuries led to the patient’s death."
The penalty amount is the largest allowed under California law.
