Joint Commission engineer: BMP won’t return in 2010

As we first reported last week on Mac’s Safety Space, there appear to be no plans by The Joint Commission to re-introduce the building maintenance program (BMP) next year.
Prior to the introduction of the life safety standards in January, hospitals were able to use the optional BMP to manage 10 common, maintenance-related Life Safety Code deficiencies (e.g., burned out exit lights), and in doing so facilities benefited from scoring advantages. Those scoring benefits ended when the life safety chapter went into effect.
