Many states still wary of H1N1 virus
Emergency Management Alert, July 7, 2009
Hawaii now has 616 confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus, reports the Honolulu Advertiser, an increase of 113 since June 24. The Advertiser also reports that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that there are now 33,902 confirmed cases of the virus in the United States, a 34% rise in one week.
California is experiencing an unusually strong occurrence of flu for this time of year, and experts believe that many are probably suffering from the H1N1 virus, as opposed to the typical flu, reports Contra Costa Times. Hawaii and California are two of 12 states still reporting widespread influenza activity during a time when flu rates are usually low.
