Q&A: Fashionable scrubs and safety

Q: A number of uniform suppliers offer capri style scrub pants. Are laboratory techs and phlebotomists allowed to wear this style scrub?

A: Although there is no regulatory requirement about the length of scrub attire, OSHA or otherwise, scrub pants that don’t cover the entirety of the worker’s legs are a safety and infection control concern, says Terry Jo Gile, MT(ASCP), MA Ed., The Safety Lady®.
