Social media used widely during flooding in Fargo, ND
Emergency Management Alert, June 9, 2009
When floods in March 2009 left Innovis Health the only open health system in Fargo, ND, the system used social media to update employees, medical staff, and the media.
Though cell phone towers were sometimes overwhelmed, the hospital used their blog and Twitter to update volunteers and the public. The blog received more than 1,100 hits, and the hospital's Twitter updates were followed by CBS News and FEMA. Using these methods, the hospital also estimates that 90% of the community's population volunteered in some way. To view a video about their efforts, click here.
