Last year a white paper by Peter Rothschild, MD, drew attention to the lack of adequate infection control measures in MRI suites.
On May 27, Rothschild released a new survey supporting his report, in which he asked both outpatient and hospital facilities if they had an infection control plan that included the MRI, and if employees adhered to it.
The survey found an absence of written policies, especially on the outpatient side. Also, any infection control procedures were a result of preferences or training of the MRI technician.
For more details on the survey, read the MRI post on the OSHA Healthcare Advisor.
