Under EC.02.04.01, The Joint Commission requires hospitals to manage medical equipment risks.

The 2009 version of the standard is a streamlined version of its former self. That being said, the provisions remain relatively unchanged.

A clarification comes under EP 1, which now clearly mandates that hospitals solicit input from workers who will operate and maintain medical equipment as part of the acquisition of these devices. This resembles OSHA’s requirement for input from employees about safety needle devices.
