The third time might be a charm for supporters of a national safe patient handling and lifting law.
U.S. Representative John Conyers, Jr., (D-Michigan) introduced the Nurse and Health Care Worker Protection Act of 2009 (H.R. 2381) on May 13. Conyers has twice introduced similar bills to Congress, but those efforts were during the Bush administration when there was less likelihood for success because of partisan politics.
H.R. 2381 calls for OSHA to release a standard within two years that would apply to all healthcare employers.
