A hearty thanks to all of you who attended the 3rd Annual Hospital Safety Center Symposium last week. It was a great show and we appreciated all of the discussion with, and ideas from, our attendees.
During the closing session of the symposium, speaker Marge McFarlane, founder of Superior Performance Consulting, LLC, in Eau Claire, WI, emphasized the connections between Joint Commission emergency management standards and requirements in the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
“There’s nothing in NIMS that isn’t Joint Commission-required already,” McFarlane said.
In fact, the set-up of NIMS helps hospital emergency planners document their familiarity with an incident command structure, which is a mandate under Joint Commission standard EM.01.01.01.
