Q: A male worker needs to be fit tested for an N95 respirator, but has a beard and will not shave it. What should I do?
A: OSHA’s respiratory protection standard, 1910.134, requires workers to be clean shaven when wearing a tight-fitting, face piece-type respirator such as the N95, but there are other options such as a powered air purifying respirator.
