Managing emergencies was a problematic Joint Commission standard in surveyed critical access hospitals in the first half of 2008.
Former standard EC.4.11, which requires critical access hospitals to manage the consequences of emergencies, was on the Joint Commission’s list of most challenging standards, with seven percent of facilities not in compliance. EC.4.11’s provisions are now found among several standards in the Joint Commission’s new emergency management chapter, which debuted in January 2009.
Developing an emergency operations plan is crucial to emergency planning. If your hospital needs help, sign-on for the April 14 virtual workshop “Five Steps to Strengthen Your Emergency Operations Plan: Strategies for Joint Commission Compliance.”
Hear what speaker Jim Kendig MS, CHSP, CHCM, HE, LHRM, of Health First in Tampa, FL, says about why the EOP is such a problem.
