You will not be able to disinfect medical devices in a household or office dishwasher, says Peggy Prinz Luebbert, MS,MT(ASCP), CIC, CHSP, owner and consultant for Healthcare Interventions, Inc., Omaha, NE. Dishwashers sanitize, not disinfect, and there is a difference, Leubbert explains in her OSHA Healthcare Advisor post, "Save the dishwasher for the dishes, not disinfecting vaginal specula."
Also in Leubbert's post is link to free downloadable PDF,"Decontaminating Vaginal Specula," from the decontamination section of the Quality America OSHA Safety Program Manual.
