In an FAQ released earlier this year, The Joint Commission outlined its expectations for staff ID badges.
EC.02.01.01, element of performance 7, requires hospitals to identify people entering the building.
“The organization is expected to determine who requires identification and how the process is implemented,” the FAQ states. “If the policy requires all staff to wear ID badges, then all staff (including physicians) would need to comply.”
The Joint Commission encourages safety and security managers to check the regulations in their individual states, as some may have stricter provisions for ID badges.
