Needlesticks rank second among 2008 healthcare hazards

When it comes to dangerous technology in healthcare settings, needlesticks are bested only by alarm hazards, according to the Emergency Care Research Institute (ECRI) "Top 10 Health Technology Hazards."

Needlesticks continue to occur despite the common use of safety technology, according to the report. It is not only clinicians who are at risk, but also patients, laboratory personnel, pharmacy staff, housekeeping personnel, and waste handlers," the report adds.
