We recently read about a disaster drill that utilized a component others might want to consider:
St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center in Evansville, IN, held an exercise last month that simulated the after-effects of a strong earthquake.
Among the nice touches was a mock newscast about the earthquake that was shown on the TVs in the hospital’s incident command center, reported the Evansville Courier & Press. Students of a broadcast class at a local high school filmed the news show with help from a local news station. The station’s weather forecaster even made a cameo in the video.
The idea is a good one for other hospitals to pursue with their neighboring schools or colleges.
Drill organizers felt the newscast created the appropriate, realistic atmosphere for participants in the drill, according to the Courier & Press.
