Space heater use to be more restrictive as of January 1

With colder temperatures approaching, portable space heaters will start showing up on units and in offices once again.

The risk of using these appliances is real. In March 2007, a fire at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City was likely caused by an overheating space heater, according to a safety director. The fire forced workers to evacuate 13 patients to safer areas on the seventh floor of the facility.
