California bill strengthens emergency management
Emergency Management Alert, October 7, 2008
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger closed out the month of September by approving legislation intended to strengthen the state’s emergency management and response, according to the Imperial Valley News.
Included in the legislation is a bill that combines the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) and the Office of Homeland Security into one cabinet-level agency. The state government agency will be in charge of overseeing and coordinating emergency management and response.
The Governor also signed legislation that will enhance assistance to victims of a disaster and renewed the Disaster Response Emergency Operations Account (DREOA), which provides funding for response to fires and other natural disasters.
