Getting personal with pandemic flu

OSHA Healthcare Connection, September 9, 2008

A new online "storybook" from the CDC and www.pandemicflu.gov may help healthcare workers get a better sense of the devastation pandemic flu can wreak. At least, that's the goal of a new Web resource, which contains real stories from survivors, families, and friends who lived through both the 1918 and the 1957 pandemics.

"Complacency is enemy number one when it comes to preparing for another influenza pandemic," says CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding in a statement on the Web site. "These stories, told so eloquently by survivors, family members, and friends from past pandemics, serve as a sobering reminder of the devastating impact that influenza can have and reading them is a must for anyone involved in public health preparedness."
