Bioterrorism defense remains a top priority

Despite the lessons learned over the past decade or so, bioterrorism threats such as anthrax remain difficult to defend against, according to an August 4 Wall Street Journal article.

Experts say that despite roughly $50 billion in funds spent by the federal government since 2001, vulnerabilities still exist in many locations, according to the article. Other concerns cited by experts are the ability to disseminate medication quickly, and hospitals’ fears that a widespread attack may simply overrun many facilities and their resources, the Journal reported.
