The American Society for Healthcare Engineering’s (ASHE) annual conference took place earlier this week, and among the highlights were several Joint Commission-themed sessions.
George Mills, senior engineer at The Joint Commission, asked ASHE attendees to consider the following scenarios as they hone their emergency operations plans:
- What will your hospital do if a generator fails during a power outage? Do you have a back-up agreement in place with a generator vendor?
- What if your facility loses water during the summer? How will you deal with air conditioning and sanitation needs?
- Are the hospital’s housekeeping supplies stored in the basement, and if so, can they survive a flood?
