The Joint Commission has positioned its new life safety standards to tie in more explicitly with references to the Life Safety Code (LSC).
In doing so, however, the commission has greatly expanded the elements of performance (EPs) associated with life safety—from seven under current standard EC.5.20 to more than 100 in the life safety standards.
Other notable changes include the following:
- The interim life safety measures—which currently fall under EC.5.50—will become separate, scored EPs under LS.01.02.01
- The optional building maintenance program under the current Statement of Conditions will cease to have a scoring advantage in the 2009 standards
Those of you who need help navigating The Joint Commission’s upcoming changes should consider joining us for a special one-day seminar, Environment of Care for 2009, which takes place September 5 in Boston. Click here to see a full agenda and meet our expert speakers.
