Joint Commission sets patient safety goals

The Joint Commission unveiled on June 17 the 2009 National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) for accredited ambulatory care facilities and offices in which surgery is performed. Two new goals focus on the prevention of central line-associated bloodstream infections and surgical site infections.

The 2009 NSPG for ambulatory care

goals apply to more than 15,000 Joint Commission-certified healthcare facilities and will be officially instated in 2010 after a one year trial period.
