Guidance posted on PPE for emergency responders

Emergency Management Alert, July 1, 2008

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has just posted guidance information on its Web site about the types of personal protective equipment (PPE) that emergency responders should employ when responding to terrorism incidents involving chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) hazards.

Emergency responders must be provided with appropriate respiratory and dermal protection from suspected or known CBRN hazards, the guidance says. The amount of protection required depends on the specific material and hazard involved.
