The CDC introduced last week a video for patients that encourages them to pay close attention to the hand hygiene practices of their caregivers.
Modeled after the pre-take off safety videos used in the airline industry, "Hand Hygiene Saves Lives" emphasizes two key points to patients:
- Hand hygiene is important in protecting them from infection while in the facility
- It is appropriate for patients to ask or remind healthcare providers to practice hand hygiene.
The CDC also makes available posters and brochures for patients to accompany the video and reinforce the messages about hand hygiene.
