A mercury spill at a Savannah, GA, medical office has forced its closure for nearly a week, according to WSAV-TV.

The spill was reported Monday, June 16, at the Kidney Specialists of Savannah when an adult patient accidentally broke a wall-mounted mercury-containing blood pressure cuff. As of Friday, June 20, Savannah Fire Department and Environmental Protection Agency officials were still in the process of ventilating the building to bring mercury readings to a safe level.

"We believe some mercury may have gotten behind some of the baseboards or it may be somewhere we haven't been able to locate," a fire department official told WSAV-TV.
