The Joint Commission's (formerly JCAHO) proposed emergency management chapter for 2009 will have little of surprise to anyone familiar with the current 2008 requirements, said a former Joint Commission official.

Upon his initial review of the draft EM chapter, "I don't see any additional requirements," said Joseph Cappiello, the former vice president of accreditation field operations at The Joint Commission.

Cappiello, who is currently president and CEO of Simulation Education Services in Oakbrook Terrace, IL, spoke during an HCPro audioconference this week about EC.4.12's 96-hour rule.

Perhaps the biggest frustration out of the proposed EM chapter is that it will again renumber a series of standards that were just renumbered this year, he said.
