While a widespread power outage in Florida got national attention on Tuesday, a smaller disruption in San Jose, CA, saw fire authorities come to the aid of a hospital.
The outage knocked the power out at Kaiser Santa Teresa Medical Center on February 21. For an unknown reason, the hospital's generator didn't kick in for a short period of time, a fire official told the San Jose Mercury News.
A fire captain who had helped transport a patient to the hospital noticed there were no lights on in the ER and called for a two-alarm response from the fire department.
That call brought 30 firefighters, four engines, and two trucks with generators, flashlights and other tools, the Mercury News reported. The fire department's generators provided the hospital with power until the facility's generator kicked on about a half hour later.
