A leaking blood pressure instrument that deposited mercury on stairways and an entrance area shut down a Norman Wells, Northwest Territories, health clinic for a week, according to a CBC News report on February 18.
The instrument broke, not from being bumped or dropped, but because of the drastic temperature change when it was transported from a heated car to the facility, according the report. The outdoor temperature was -50°C when the accident occurred, reported CBC News.
